Buyers guide to computers |
|
Buying a new computer is a big decision. Whether you’re a first timer or experienced user the choice is vast. The first thing to decide is what do you want to do. · For word processing or internet use, a good second user or new entry level computer with a new printer is sufficient. · For digital work, picture editing or watching DVD’s use a medium level computer with Windows XP and at least 512mb memory and 128mb graphics. The more memory the better. · Games may require a high specification machine with plenty of memory and a high specification graphics card but you will only get what you pay for. In most cases the more you pay the more you can do. Even the most basic of new machines can be far superior to a 2 year old computer. Upgrading can be uneconomic or you may not be able to buy the parts necessary simply because the technology is progressing so quickly. Software can cost far more than the computer itself. Always take advice on what software will meet your needs. Consider what peripherals you want, printer, scanner, digital camera or video equipment. The choice is vast so can the cost, nobody gets it right first time. |
